Why Easter revision will be more important than ever this year.

As teachers we know how hard A level students have been hit with the disruption to learning caused by Covid-19.

The burning questions at present from students are……….. How will I be assessed? Will I have to revise all topics? Will I need to write essay style answers? The truth is until the government make their announcement on the 22nd February and the outcome of the consultation has been released, nobody knows!

However unlike last year where predicted grades heavily influenced student outcomes, this year teacher assessments will take precedence and as a result students must continue to revise and work towards assessments including tests, mocks and for many subjects coursework.

Teachers are furiously cramming the syllabus into what is already an extremely tight timeframe with limited time to work on essential skills and exam technique. Students are left vulnerable and stressed, and even those in the most supportive of schools and colleges will be struggling to maintain the necessary pace. Lets face it, it’s a terrible situation to be in and motivation levels for most can be extremely low.

Even students with the best intentions can find it hard to revise during the holidays, making multiple revision timetables, scattering rooms with post it notes and mind maps but never really tackling the topics that need to be attended to!

What we do know however, from years of delivering intensive revision courses, is the positive impact that a carefully structured Easter revision course can have on a students progress within a subject.

“I have found the last 3 days to be of great help. The small class size allowed content to tailor fit to suit our needs which is hard to get in a standard classroom with more students.”

— Cameron, Maths Student

Led by qualified teachers and examiners the intensive courses enable students to cover an entire subjects syllabus in a matter of days, honing in on the most challenging areas of the specifications and ensuring the all important exam technique is mastered.

So what are the benefits of attending a course this year?:

  • Exam board specific content which covers missed learning and knowledge gaps

  • Small class sizes, so individual support can be provided

  • Limited distractions, up to 6 hours a day focused tuition at a suitable pace

  • Gaining expert guidance and a fresh teaching approach from friendly experienced tutors

  • Excellent working environment with positive like minded peers

  • Notes and resources to take away and utilise during independent revision

  • Students leave confident, motivated and well equipped to tackle any teacher assessments and exams.

It’s very unlikely this year that any schools or colleges will have been able to mirror the same delivery as in previous years. Most courses will not even be finished by Easter which makes it even more important to ensure that high quality tuition is taking place during the holidays.

It may seem like an impossible task but we know what can be achieved!

“ Just to let you know my eldest daughter attended your course with Sara earlier this year and achieved her grade in Biology (her weakest and least secure subject). As a result she gained a place at Durham University to study Geography. This was an aspirational UCAS choice with a lower back up University! She would not have achieved her place had it not been for Sara’s coaching!”
